How to Make the Perfect Cup of Matcha
Traditional Preparation (not ceremonial)
- Bring freshly drawn water to about 175-190°F
- Scoop matcha into a bowl using 1/2tsp for each 6oz of water. (If your cup is 12oz use 1tsp.)
- Pour 2oz of the hot water over the matcha.
- Whisk vigorously to make a smooth paste.
- Add the rest of the hot water and whisk vigorously until the matcha has a light foam over the top.
- Pour into a cup or sip straight out of the bowl!
Modern Preparation (electric whisk or milk frother)
- Bring freshly drawn water to about 175-190°F
- Scoop matcha into a cup or mug using 1/2tsp for each 6oz of water. (If your cup is 24oz use 2tsp.)
- Pour half the amount of hot water you need over the matcha.
- Use an electric whisk to mix.
- Add the rest of the hot water and use a spoon to mix gently.
- Sweeten and add milk to taste.
