Revealed by the Light
There is a whole other world on the farm that happens while we're sleeping.
After a rainy night, we woke to one of those eerie, foggy New Mexico mornings when everything feels a little quieter than usual. As the fog began to lift and the morning sun found its way through the yarrow, it illuminated something extraordinary.
A spiderweb.
It had probably been there all along, nearly invisible among the plants. But for just a little while, the angle of the sunlight caught every delicate strand and made the whole thing glow.
That's one of the things I love about wandering around the farm. There is always something happening that I didn't plan, plant or put there.
The birds arrive. A volunteer sunflower appears where no one planted one. A tiny creature makes a home among the herbs. Rain collects on a leaf. And sometimes a spider spends the night creating something remarkable in the yarrow.
The farm has its own schedule and its own little surprises. My job, sometimes, is simply to notice them.
This beautiful web reminded me that sometimes beauty doesn't suddenly appear — we simply arrive at the right moment to see it.
One of today's little glimmers from the farm.
