Margaret's Hope Darjeeling Black Tea
Nestled in the shadow of the snow-capped Himalayas, the Margaret's Hope Estate produces some of the world’s finest Darjeeling teas. This exceptional second-flush tea captures the essence of its high-altitude origins, offering a cup with a distinctive muscatel character, subtle hints of currant, and a vinous complexity that sets it apart.
The estate’s history is steeped in both charm and tragedy. Originally owned by Mr. Bagdon in the 1930s, the garden was renamed in memory of his daughter, Margaret, who fell in love with the estate but tragically passed away before she could return. Legend has it that her spirit continues to visit the estate bungalow, adding an ethereal quality to this already exceptional tea.
Grown at high altitudes in cool weather, the slow-growing Chinese Jat tea bushes contribute to the tea’s unique green-leafed, tippy appearance and complex bouquet. The second-flush harvest, from late May to late June, offers a full-bodied liquor with unmatched muscatel notes, making it perfect for an elegant afternoon tea. Paired with scones, raspberry conserve, or delicate pastries, this tea is a true delight.
