Rocky Horror, the Preacher's Son, and a Cup of Tea
Some teas have a story behind them. This one has quite a story.
I was probably in eighth or ninth grade when I first saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And here's the part that still makes me laugh: I went with the preacher's son!
Now, I was young, and I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into. He, on the other hand, knew exactly what we were going to see. He even came prepared!
This wasn't just an ordinary night at the movies. It was the full Rocky Horror experience, complete with newspapers, spray bottles, and all the audience participation that makes the show such a wonderfully outrageous event.
And there I was, trying to figure out what on earth was going on!
Looking back, I can't help but laugh. If my parents had known what that movie was about—or what kind of evening I was in for—I suspect I wouldn't have been sitting in that theater.
But I was. And all these years later, I still remember it.
Funny how certain experiences stay with us, isn't it? A song, a movie, a smell, or a flavor can bring back a memory you haven't thought about in years.
Which brings me to a tea in the Figments collection.
Rocky Horror Spice Black Tea
I suppose it's no accident that I have a tea called Rocky Horror Spice.
It's a wonderfully playful blend of black tea and rooibos, with warming cinnamon, apple, orange, rosehip, almond, colorful flower petals, and little candy surprises tucked among the tea leaves.
It's a little unexpected, a little theatrical, and definitely not your ordinary cup of tea.
Rather fitting, don't you think?
I love that after all these years, a memory of a rather surprising night at the movies has found its way into my tea collection.
And now, every time I see those little candy shapes mixed into the tea, I have one more reason to smile.
Here's to the memories that stay with us, the adventures we never saw coming, and the occasional cup of tea with a little personality.
