A Quieter Movement

A Quieter Movement

It was a cold morning here on the farm as our first major frost traced the feathery leaves of the yarrow in silver.

This time of year, I love watching the plants begin their return to the earth. As summer’s leaves fade and fall, my thoughts turn to their roots, tucked beneath the soil, and the life we can’t see as the garden settles in for the colder months.

It reminds me of classical music. Summer is the big, vivacious movement, full of color and activity. Then come the slower, quieter passages of fall and winter, giving the whole piece room to breathe.

There’s still lavender to trim and fall cleanup to do. But between those jobs, I’m enjoying these little moments that invite me to pause and notice the change.

The farm is moving into its quieter season. I’m grateful to listen.
